Centre County Adds 86 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 5,131 New Positives

Centre County reported 86 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday to bring its total to 18,316, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases, 16,599 are confirmed and 1,717 are probable.

Pennsylvania had more than 5,000 new positives on consecutive days for the first time since mid-April. The 5,131 cases reported on Saturday were the commonwealth’s most since April 16 and bring the statewide total to 1,343,444.

The county also had 279 new negative test results for a total of 76,848. Statewide there were 12,039 negatives to bring the total to 5,245,252.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 232.

With 31 new COVID-19 deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is 28,566.

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 17 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, with two in intensive care and one on a ventilator — all unchanged since Friday.

For the week of Sept. 3-9, Centre County had an average of 15.6 daily COVID-specific hospitalizations, down from 19.7 previous seven days, according to the updated Department of Health early warning monitoring dashboard.

Pennsylvania has 2,196 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 49 since Friday, with 518 in intensive care [-17] and 279 on ventilators [+11]. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since May 1.

Average daily COVID hospitalizations across Pennsylvania increased from 1,819.7 to 2,016.3 for the week of Sept. 3-9.

An estimated 92% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Positivity rate

Centre County’s PCR testing positivity rate for the week of Sept. 3-9 was 12.9%, up from 8.3% the previous seven days, according to the monitoring dashboard. The rate was 21st highest among Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

The county had 365 new cases for that seven-day period, 153 more than the prior week.

The statewide positivity rate was 9.1%, up from 8.2% the previous seven days. It was the 10th consecutive week Pennsylvania’s positivity rate increased after 12 consecutive weeks of decreases. The commonwealth had 19,380 new positives between Sept. 3-9, up from 18,226 the prior week.

Transmission Level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Saturday afternoon.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Saturday morning, 81,310 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+118 since Friday] and 6,704 are partially covered [+77]. According to the CDC, 60.5% of the county’s entire population and 67.4% of adult residents have received at least one dose.

Statewide, 66.8% of adults are vaccinated and Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administer, according the CDC.

Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
