The free COVID-19 testing site in Centre County will continue to operate but will be moving to a new location at the end of the week.
Starting Friday, the clinic will be located in the former Subway building at 219 S. Water St. in Bellefonte, Centre County Administrator Margaret Gray said at Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting.
Operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health in partnership with AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, the testing site has been at the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority since January. Its last day there will be Thursday.
The former Subway building has been owned since last year by Bellefonte Borough, which is “more than willing to allow AMI and the Department of Health to use that space,” Gray said.
“We’ve toured it and it will work as long as our numbers stay down,” Gray added. “We’re hoping for that especially during the summer months.”
It is expected to remain open through September.
Hours for the testing clinic are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Mid-nasal passage swab PCR testing is open to anyone age 3 or older on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment is required and patients do not need to have COVID-19 symptoms to get tested. Patients are asked to bring ID.
AMI has conducted free testing in Centre County since the fall of 2020 through contracts with DOH and the county at various locations. DOH has continuously sponsored the clinic since April 2021.
