A 30-year veteran of the State College Area School District will be the new assistant principal at State High.
Susan Hipp was appointed to the position by the school board on Monday night. She will succeed Jackie Saylor, who has moved to the role of assistant director of curriculum for the district.
“We are thrilled to welcome Susan to the high school administrative team,” Jonathan Bucher, assistant superintendent for secondary education, said. “Her extensive classroom experience, combined with her knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and her data-driven approach, will be invaluable assets to State High.”
Hipp has taught multiple grades at Mount Nittany Elementary School and the former Boalsburg Elementary. She “is known for her expertise in student support and curriculum development,” according to the district
She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master of education degree in curriculum and supervision from Penn State.
The assistant principal works with the principal to manage and oversee “the curriculum, staff, students, activities, and administrative aspects of the school, as well as establish and maintain an orderly and safe school environment,” according to a job listing posted in the spring.
“The successful candidate will provide direction to students, administer discipline based on the student handbook, oversee attendance procedures, and work collaboratively with multiple teams including SAP, IEPs, 504s, and MTSS meetings,” the listing stated.
Hipp will begin as assistant principal on July 1. She will receive a salary of $115,000 per year, according to the human resources recommendations approved by the board on Monday.
