Matt Herndon, Evan Myers, Kevin Kassab and Josh Portney are poised to claim the four Democratic nominations for four-year terms on State College Borough Council.
Five Democratic candidates were vying for the nominations for four full-term council seats in Tuesday’s primary election, with no candidates on the Republican ballot. Business owner Tony Sapia trailed the other four candidates in the Democratic primary.
Herndon, a first-time candidate and State College Transportation Commission member, was the leading vote-getter as of 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday and with all precincts at least partially reported.
Portney, a Penn State Law student and Planning Commission member, and Kassab, the recently retired borough community engagement manager, are also first-time candidates.
Myers is senior vice president at AccuWeather and a former two-term member of council.
Democratic incumbent Nalini Krishnankutty, meanwhile, ran unopposed in the primary for a two-year interim term.
Whether any candidates earned enough write-ins to earn a Republican nomination for a council seat will be determined in the coming days, but the winners of the Democratic primary will be in the driver’s seat for November’s General Election.

Election results are unofficial until certified.
