Centre County voters can learn about the voting process, local government and community programs at a free voter education expo coming to the Nittany Mall in September.
The League of Women Voters of Centre County and the State College branch of the American Association of University Women will host the “Why Should I Vote? Voter Education Expo” from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Nittany Mall Active Adult Center/Mall Commons near Entrance A.
The nonpartisan event will bring together dozens of community organizations and government groups to provide information about voting and programs available throughout the county.
Organizers are encouraging both registered and unregistered voters to attend ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
“We particularly invite those not registered to vote to attend. However, those already registered to vote will also find the event fun and informative. And please bring your children,” Kathleen O’Connell, LWVCC president, said.
Voter registration and election information will be available at the event. Candidates and political parties on the November ballot also have been invited to meet with attendees.
The expo will include a panel discussion focused on finding reliable information when voting, as well as presentations covering local government spending and development in Centre County.
Centre County Controller Jason Moser will discuss “What You Get for Your Taxes,” while the Centre County Community Development and Planning Commission will present “How’d That High Rise/Mega Data Center/Hotel Get Built There?”
Attendees also can participate in a Trivia Passport by visiting information tables throughout the event. Completed passports will qualify participants for prize drawings, while arts and crafts activities will be available for both children and adults.
“We’re hoping for a wide range of views from the visitors to the Expo,” O’Connell said. “Having a lot of groups, candidates and information available in one fun location will allow Centre County voters (and future voters) a chance to get excited about the November 3rd election,”
The League of Women Voters of Centre County provides voter registration assistance and nonpartisan election information, including candidate guides and forums.
A full list of participating organizations and the presenters’ schedule is available through the AAUW State College voter education page.
