A new retail pharmacy is now open at Penn Highlands State College hospital.

The pharmacy, which includes a drive-thru and accepts most insurance plans, is located on the first floor of the hospital and medical arts building at 239 Colonnade Boulevard in Patton Township.

Services include an auto-refill program, refill request by phone and text alerts when prescriptions are ready, according to a news release. The pharmacy will also offer immunizations and vaccinations for the flu, shingles, pneumonia, COVID-19, RSV and travel vaccines.

Pharmacists will be available for consultation and medication review, and the pharmacy sells over-the-counter cold and flue medications, pain relievers, lozenges, bandages and other items.

“One of the key benefits of having a retail pharmacy that is part of a health system filling your prescriptions is that we share an electronic medical record,” Adam Butters, manager of the Penn Highlands State College Community Pharmacy, said in a statement. “This relationship enables our pharmacists to access a patient’s medication history and notes which reduces medication errors and allows for better coordination among the health care team.”

The pharmacy is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Penn Highlands State College opened this summer after two years of construction. The $90 million hospital is Penn Highlands Healthcare’s ninth and the first the system has built from scratch since forming in 2011.
