A 22-year-old Centre County man died after a car-motorcycle crash on Monday afternoon near State College, borough police said on Tuesday evening.

The crash happened at about 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of East College Avenue and Struble Road in College Township. A preliminary investigation indicated that a 73-year-old man driving a Toyota Prius turned left from College Avenue toward Struble Road and collided with the motorcyclist, who was traveling east on College Avenue, according to police.

The 22-year-old motorcyclist, who police described as a local resident, was ejected from the bike. He was flown by medevac helicopter to UPMC Altoona, where he was pronounced dead.

His name was withheld pending family notification.

The driver of the Prius, who police also described as a local resident, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash, police said.

Centre LifeLink EMS, Alpha Fire Company and the Centre County Accident Reconstruction Team also assisted at the scene.
