One person died and three others were taken to the hospital for treatment after a multi-vehicle crash Monday morning on U.S. Route 322 in Harris Township.

A 36-year-old man driving a Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling westbound at about 6:20 a.m. on the 5700 block of the Mount Nittany Expressway when he crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a tractor-trailer, according to a preliminary investigation by State College police.

After the impact, the tractor-trailer crossed into the westbound lane and struck two additional vehicles, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

His name was withheld pending family notification.

The drivers of the tractor-trailer and two other vehicles also were taken by Centre LifeLink EMS to the hospital, where they were treated and released.

Route 322 in the area of the crash was closed in both directions for about five hours before reopening around 11:30 a.m.

In addition to State College police and Centre LifeLink EMS, Boalsburg Fire Company, the Centre County Accident Reconstruction Team, Centre County Coroner’s Officer, PennDOT and Gio’s Towing and Recovery assisted.
