124 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Centre County

Centre County added 124 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday to bring its total to 2,202 since the first was reported on March 20, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The county also had 354 new negative test results. A total of 24,372 patients in the county have tested negative for the virus.

Among Thursday’s new cases, 122 are confirmed and two are probable. 

According to DOH data, Centre County has two COVID-19 hospitalizations.

In the past two weeks, Centre County has added 1,277 new cases, the vast majority in the State College and University Park zip code and most corresponding to Penn State student testing

Statewide, the health department reported 853 new cases on Thursday, increasing Pennsylvania’s total to 153,397.

There were 13,058 new negative test results across the state. A total of 1,803,470 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for the virus.

An estimated 81% of COVID-19 patients in the state — about 124,252 — have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Across Pennsylvania, 422 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 53 requiring use of a ventilator.

The health department reported 17 new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the state’s total at 8,079. DOH has reported 11 total COVID-19 deaths for Centre County, the most recent on Aug. 14. The coroner’s office has confirmed only seven, ranging in age from 74 to 96.

Most COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been among patients 65 and older, according to DOH.

Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 148,658 are confirmed and 4,739 are probable. In Centre County, 2,135 are confirmed and 67 are probable.
