State College police announced yesterday that 17 people have been charged with furnishing alcohol to minors involved in two recent DUI car and pedestrian accidents in the borough.

Police say that four Penn State students and two other people gave alcohol to 20-year-old Anthony Torsell before he struck two pedestrians with his car while they crossed South Atherton Street, killing one and seriously injuring the other.

In the second incident that took place on Dec. 2, 18-year-old Michael Drauch was hit and critically injured by a driver while crossing East College Avenue. Police found that both Drauch and the driver of the vehicle had been drinking.  Eleven people have been charged with furnishing alcohol to him and four underage friends at three locations that night.  All eleven are Penn State students.
