The first ever country act to play at the Bryce Jordan Center is returning to the University Park arena in 2019.
Alabama will bring its 50th anniversary tour, featuring special guest the Charlie Daniels Band, to Penn State on Saturday, April 27. Tickets start at $35 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at Bryce Jordan Center ticket outlets, online at ticketmaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000.
The group played at the Jordan Center on Jan. 21, 1996, the first month of operation for the arena.
With hits such as ‘Mountain Music,’ ‘Song of the South,’ and ‘Feels So Right,’ Alabama played a key role in shaping the sound of modern country music over the past 50 years. Introducing lights and pyrotechnics to their shows and featuring a sound with rock-style guitars, the band has inspired and influenced some of the biggest country stars of today, such as Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan.
Alabama has charted 43 No. 1 singles, including 21 No. 1 singles in a row, and has won 179 CMA Awards, Grammy Awards, and ACM Awards. The band also is in the Country Music Hall of Fame and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
With award-winning gospel albums, southern rock anthems and country hits, Charlie Daniels continues to leave his mark on the American musical landscape at the age of 80. Since his band scored their first top 10 hit with ‘Uneasy Rider’ in 1972, Daniels became a radio mainstay with songs such as ‘Long Haired Country Boy,’ and his signature tune ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia,’ which won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979 as well as single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards.
