Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania’s gas line relocation work on Atherton Street in State College will switch to an overnight schedule beginning Monday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Work will take place from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, concluding for the week at 6 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 8. The schedule is expected to remain in effect through the end of October. The work zone is from the White Course Drive intersection on North Atherton Street to the Westerly Parkway intersection on South Atherton Street.
Flaggers in the roadway will direct drivers and pedestrians.
Relocation began this week with work taking place during daylight hours on South Atherton Street between the intersections of Highland and Hill alleys.
The work is part of the next phase of PennDOT’s Atherton Street improvement project, which will span from the Curtin Road intersection to the Westerly Parkway intersection.
Substantial work is expected to begin next spring and will also include sewer and water line replacements; roadway, drainage, pedestrian and traffic signal improvements; and streetscape additions along a portion of the work area.
The project is scheduled to conclude in early summer 2024.
A similar, three-year project on North Atherton Street between Aaron Drive and Curtin Road concluded last summer.
