One newcomer and three incumbents are all but assured election to the State College Area School Board in November’s election.
Lori Bedell and current members David Hutchinson, Jim Leous and Scott Fozard were the top four vote getters on both the Democratic and Republican ballots in Tuesday’s primary. Four seats are up for election.
Bedell, a senior lecturer in Penn State’s Department of Communication Arts and Sciences, took the most votes on the Democratic side with 4,305 votes (26.32 percent). Hutchinson, currently in his 14th year on the board, was second with 3,569 votes (21.82 percent). Leous, in his eighth year on the board, secured 3,381 votes (20.67 percent). Fozard, first elected in 2013, had 1,946 votes (11.9 percent).
On the Republican ballot, Hutchinson took first with 2,004 votes (21.4 percent), followed by Bedell with 1,795 (19.17 percent), Fozard with 1,712 (18.28 percent) and Leous with 1,538 (16.42 percent).
In both primaries, Arnold Tilden and Bradford Vivian came in fifth and sixth, respectively
