A Father’s Day weekend tradition roared into Bellefonte on Friday evening.

The Bellefonte Cruise kicked off its 36th year with the open cruise through downtown, music and a sock hop on the diamond, food and plenty of community spirit.

“Every year I get comments from businesses in town. ‘This is the greatest thing. You guys do so great!’ They get a lot of business that comes back. I get countless people say they’re coming back just to see the town,” Pat McCool, chairman of the Bellefonte Cruise, told StateCollege.com partner The Centre County Gazette.

“It’s the atmosphere. It brings a lot of people. Bellefonte has a lot of history.”

The cruise continues on Saturday with the area’s largest car, truck and motorcycle show from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., free caricatures by Chip Mock from 10 a.m. to noon on the diamond, bike games at noon in front of the main stage at the courthouse, The Daydream Believers performing from 1 to 3 p.m. on the main stage and awards announced at 5 p.m. The food court on West Howard Street will be open all day.

Parking with shuttle service will be available at Bellefonte Area High School.
