The State College Borough Water Authority issued a boil water advisory on Monday for customers in portions of Ferguson and Patton townships.
According to a notice from the SCBWA, an equipment failure and main break along North Oak Lane “created a loss of positive pressure in a portion of the distribution system,” that lasted from several minutes to a half hour. While pressure has been restored, crews were continuing to repair the break and flushing the affected section of the system to ensure water quality meets regulatory requirements.
The advisory remained in effect as of 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“Full water service will be restored to those impacted residents as soon as possible,” the SCBWA wrote in the advisory.
Impacted customers are largely in the Greenbriar, Park Forest and Grays Woods neighborhoods. Below is a map provided by the SCBWA of the affected area:

Loss of positive water pressure is a sign of conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system, increasing the chance that water may contain disease-causing organisms, according to the advisory. Until the advisory is lifted, affected customers should use bottled water or bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute and allow to cool before use. Bottled or boiled water should be used for drinking, making ice, food preparation, washing dishes and brushing teeth.
