The Upper Halfmoon Township Water Company issued a precautionary boil water advisory following a major water main break on Thursday.

The break occurred on Lutz Lane and resulted in a loss of positive system pressure, a condition that potentially allows for contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites to enter the system. No contaminants were detected as of Thursday afternoon.

Repairs to the line break have been completed and positive water pressure has been restored, but residents should not drink the water without boiling it first until further notice.

‘Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and cool before using; or use bottled water,’ the advisory said. ‘You should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and food preparation until the advisory has been lifted.

Initial water samples were taken on Thursday and a second sample will be taken on Friday. Results should be available on Saturday and if no contaminants are detected, the boil water advisory will be lifted. If contaminants are found the advisory will remain in effect until testing finds the water is safe.

Customers have been notified individually by automated phone call.
