A small number of homes is under a Boil Water Advisory after a water main break in College Township. A 12-inch water line ruptured along Florence Way Tuesday morning.
Residents in 11 homes on Florence Way and McCann Drive are being advised to boil drinking water for the next 48 hours as a precaution.
John Lichman, executive director of the State College Borough Water Authority says the water is safe for bathing and other normal uses, but not for drinking until tests are completed to make sure there’s no bacterial contamination.
“There’s a required testing time,” says Lichman. “Usually it’s 48 hours.”
Testing should be completed sometime Thursday morning. Residents who’ve been advised to boil their water will see a notice placed on their doorknobs letting them know when the Boil Water Advisory is lifted.
