A bridge near Lemont will be closed throughout the summer as work continues on a rehabilitation project, according to PennDOT.
The Elmwood Street bridge spanning U.S. Route 322 in College Township will be closed to traffic for about three months starting Monday, June 9. PennDOT expects the bridge to remain closed until mid-September.
Drivers will be directed to follow a detour using Pike Street and Route 26/East College Avenue to navigate around the closure.
Repairs are expected to improve the bridge’s ride quality, extend its service life and raise its overall condition rating from fair to good.
The project includes concrete beam and deck repairs, installation of reinforcement bars and new strip seals, an epoxy overlay, approach paving and pavement marking.
Work began in April, and the initial stages were primarily focused underneath the bridge.

H&P Construction Inc. of Kulpmont is the contractor on the $1.4 million project, which is part of a contract that includes two other bridge rehabilitations in Centre County. Repairs to a Route 26 bridge spanning U.S. 322 finished up this week, and work on the Route 504 bridge spanning Wallace Run in Boggs Township was completed in 2024.
The Elmwood Street work is also one of two ongoing PennDOT bridge restoration projects in College Township.
Rehabilitation of the two bridges spanning Warner Boulevard and Spring Creek near the Oak Hall interchange on U.S. Route 322 has resulted in long-term single lane closures. That project is expected to be completed by the end of August.
