The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on Monday will begin preservation work on a South Atherton Street bridge spanning Slab Cabin Run.
Once repairs are completed, the bridge, near the CVS Pharmacy at 1630 S. Atherton St., will be removed from Centre County’s structurally deficient list. Work is expected to last until the end of July.
The work zone will require an alternating traffic pattern, which will be regulated by temporary traffic signals.
The 75-foot bridge was constructed in 1932 and carries an average of 27,000 vehicles daily, according to PennDOT. Work will include barrier placement, removal and replacement of the concrete median, deck repairs, beam repairs, guide rail installation and paving.
Drivers are reminded to move through work zones with caution and obey posted speed limits.
Rylind Construction Company, Inc. of York is the contractor on the $1.4 million project.
