The Centre Area Transportation Authority is advising riders of potential delays resulting from the closure of a block of East College Avenue in State College beginning Tuesday.
East College Avenue between Hetzel and Sowers streets will be closed Jan. 9-13 for removal of a crane from the construction site for a 12-story apartment building. Through traffic approaching downtown on East College Avenue will be detoured to University Drive, Park Avenue and North Atherton Street.
For CATA buses, the most immediate impact will be on the College Avenue Connector, which travels between downtown and the Nittany Mall area and will need to follow the detour.
The traffic disruption is also expected to have some effect on all other bus routes, as well.
“We anticipate this closure and detour will increase traffic, which will impact all routes,” CATA wrote in a news release. “Please continue to expect delays for all routes during this timeframe.”
Massaro Construction of Pittsburgh, the construction manager for the apartment building construction, is implementing the detour. Massaro may open the road sooner than planned if work progress allows.
