Centre County reported 158 new COVID-19 cases over the past two days to bring its total to 2,551 since the first was reported in March.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health is no longer providing COVID-19 data updates on Sundays, so Monday’s report included numbers for both days.
The county had 88 new cases reported on Sunday and 70 for Monday. All 158 are confirmed cases.
There were 922 new negative test results over the two days. A total of 25,939 patients in Centre County have tested negative for the virus.
According to DOH data, Centre County has five COVID-19 hospitalizations.
In the past two weeks, Centre County has added 1,314 new cases, the vast majority in the State College and University Park zip codes and most corresponding to Penn State student testing.
According the Department of Health’s COVID-19 early warning monitoring dashboard, which was updated on Friday, Centre County once again had the highest incidence rate in the state for the past seven days at 350.1 per 100,000 people, up from 322.5 the prior week. The county also once again had the highest positivity rate in Pennsylvania at 12%, down slightly from 12.1% the previous week.
On Friday, DOH opened a free COVID-19 testing clinic at the Nittany Mall, while Rite Aid opened a free drive-through testing site at its 1536 N. Atherton St. store.
Statewide, the health department reported 1,594 new positives for the past two days — 918 for Sunday and 676 for Monday — increasing Pennsylvania’s total to 156,826.
There were 25,199 new negative test results statewide over the two days. A total of 1,855,491 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for the virus.
An estimated 82% of COVID-19 patients in the state — about 128,597 — have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.
Across Pennsylvania, 481 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 64 requiring use of a ventilator.
The health department reported seven new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the state’s total at 8,107. DOH has reported 11 total COVID-19 deaths for Centre County, the most recent on Aug. 14. The coroner’s office has confirmed only seven, ranging in age from 74 to 96.
Most COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been among patients 65 and older, according to DOH.
Of the patients who have tested positive to date the age breakdown is as follows:
- Approximately 1% are ages 0-4;
- Nearly 2% are ages 5-12;
- Nearly 5% are ages 13-18;
- Approximately 13% are ages 19-24;
- Approximately 36% are ages 25-49;
- Nearly 22% are ages 50-64; and
- Nearly 22% are ages 65 or older.
Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 151,944 are confirmed and 4,882 are probable. In Centre County, 2,485 are confirmed and 66 are probable.

Centre County nursing and personal care homes reported one new positive among residents and one among employees, bringing their total to 43 resident cases and 25 employee cases across 10 facilities.
Among Centre County’s bordering counties, Blair now has 689 [+22] total cases, Union has 475 [+3], Huntingdon has 404 [+2], Clearfield has 324 [+5], Mifflin has 226 [+4] and Clinton has 207 [+2].
