Centre County Adds 34 COVID-19 Cases

Centre County reported 34 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday to bring its total to 3,778 since the first was confirmed in March, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The county also had 182 new negative test results. A total of 34,267 patients in Centre County have tested negative for the virus.

According to DOH data, 12 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized at Mount Nittany Medical Center, one fewer than Tuesday, with one requiring use of a ventilator.

One new positive was reported among employees of Centre County nursing and personal care homes, which have had a combined total of 81 resident cases and 39 employee cases across 12 facilities.

Statewide, the health department reported 1,425 new positives, increasing Pennsylvania’s total to 186,297.

There were 11,897 new negative test results statewide on Wednesday. A total of 2,167,536 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for the virus. 

An estimated 79% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation. 

The health department reported 29 new COVID-19 deaths statewide, bringing the Pennsylvania’s total at 8,562. DOH has reported a total of 15 deaths attributed to the virus in Centre County, the most recent on Friday. The coroner’s office has confirmed 11, ranging in age from 74 to 101.

Most COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been among patients 65 and older, according to DOH.

Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 178,648 are confirmed and 7,649 are probable. In Centre County, 3,657 are confirmed and 121 are probable.
