At least two of the three Centre County Commissioners have been served subpoenas by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office, according to reports in area news sources.
“I am legally compelled not to answer that question,” commissioner Michael Pipe said when asked for confirmation about existence of the subpoenas.
According to “information received” by the Centre Daily Times, commissioners Steve Dershem and Chris Exarchos were to be served subpoenas on Friday by the attorney general’s office in relation to the allegations that Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller forged a judge’s signature on a fake court order.
Dershem and Exarchos could not immediately be reached for comment. Centre County Commissioner Louis Glantz declined comment.
“I can neither confirm nor deny that subpoenas have been served on any one or all of the commissioners,” says Jay Abom of the Abom and Kutulakis lawfirm, which serves as special counsel to the commissioners for this topic.
Bruce Castor, an attorney for Stacy Parks Miller, says he knows nothing about the existence of any subpoenas. However, he adds that if the attorney general’s office is conducting an investigation, it may be into the commissioners and not Parks Miller.
Castor has repeatedly asserted that the forgery allegations are false, and that the commissioners and the Bellefonte police department have overstepped their authority by investigating the allegations. He says that the attorney general’s office has exclusive jurisdiction in this case.
Representatives from the attorney general’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The office has repeatedly denied requests to confirm or deny if an investigation related to the forgery allegations exists.
The allegations became public at a Centre County Commissioners meeting last week, when two State College attorneys presented commissioners with a sworn affidavit from Parks Miller’s former paralegal.
Since then the commisioners have retained the services of Abom and Kutulakis, and the Bellefonte police department has searched Parks Miller’s office and seized a county-owned laptop, cell phone and iPad.
