Donors to Centre Gives, Centre Foundation’s annual 36-hour online giving event supporting local nonprofits, once again will see their dollars go even further this year as the stretch pool this year has doubled.

For the second consecutive year, the Hamer Foundation has donated $100,000 to double the stretch pool to $200,000.

“We could not be more grateful for the Hamer Foundation’s support of our charitable community once again,” said Molly Kunkel, Centre Foundation executive director. “Thanks to this truly visionary gift, donors’ dollars will now be stretched even further, allowing local nonprofits to have an even greater impact in Centre County.”

Since Centre Gives began in 2012, the foundation has provided a $100,000 stretch pool each year to increase the value of each donation. In 2017, the first time the pool was $200,000 gifts were stretched an average of 15 percent. The more money an organization raises the more money they can receive from the stretch pool.

Organizations also compete for $25,000 in prizes during Centre Gives, and Kunkel said anyone interested in sponsoring a prize this year should contact Centre Foundation at (814) 237-6229. Sponsorship levels range from $500 to $5,000.

The annual event has invested more than $5.4 million in local nonprofit organizations working in the areas of arts, animals, education, environment and health and social services. This year’s event begins at 8 a.m. on May 8 at CentreGives.org and concludes at 8 p.m. on May 9.
