Though there are a fair amount of fundraisers and charity drives that take place during the holiday season, there is one particularly unique event taking place this year and being put on by Penn State students.
Dress for Success, an international not-for-profit organization, offers services targeted for underprivileged women to help them find jobs and remain employed. Specifically, their mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
Though State College does not have a local chapter of Dress for Success, it is located at numerous locations around the world and has recently established a new branch in Harrisburg, PA.
To lend a hand in getting them started, a group of Penn State students have announced that they will be holding a suit drive during the week of Dec. 4-10 on behalf of the organization.
Two collections are currently scheduled during that week. On Saturday, Dec. 9, donations will be accepted at State College Nittany Bank locations, excluding the downtown office, from 9 a.m. to noon. The following day, Sunday, Dec. 10, collections will be taken up at Albright Bethune Church, located on the corner of Burrowes Road and Beaver Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Donations should include modern, professional women<92>s clothing, especially suits sizes 14 and up. They also encourage jewelry donations for professional occasions. It is requested that you bring your cleaned clothing on a hanger in ready-to-wear condition.
