State Sen. Jake Corman, R-Benner Township, once again will serve as Senate Majority Leader for the 2019-20 legislative session.

Corman was re-elected on Wednesday by the Senate Republican Caucus for a third term in the role.

“I’m honored to be chosen by my colleagues once again to lead our caucus for the upcoming legislative session,” Corman said. “We have several challenges ahead and I look forward to helping chart a course that benefits Pennsylvania families.”

Corman was re-elected last week for a sixth term as state senator representing the 34th District, defeating Democratic challenger Ezra Nanes of State College.

As the second-highest ranking Republican in the Senate, his duties include setting the legislative agenda, developing policies and strategies for the caucus and chairing the Senate Rules and Executive Nominations Committee. He also again will play a major role in negotiating with Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration and the House, as well as supervising action on the Senate floor.

Corman was first elected majority leader for the 2015-16 legislative session. He is an ex-officio member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which he previously chaired.

Sen. Joe Scarnati, of Jefferson County, was picked to serve a seventh term as president pro tempore and Sen. John Gordner, of Montour County, was re-elected as majority whip.

Republicans will hold a 29-21 majority in the state Senate.

Another Centre County Republican was elected to a leadership position in the state House on Tuesday. Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, of Bellefonte, was selected for his first term as House majority whip.
