The Days Inn in State College had an unexpected guest Friday morning.

Police say a whitetail deer walked through the automatic front doors into the main lobby of the hotel shortly before 4 a.m.

The deer was unable to leave the building at 240 South Pugh Street, and stayed in the hallway outside the Mad Mex restaurant and bar.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission was called to the scene, which tried unsuccessfully to tranquilize the deer.

Unfortunately, police say the commission ultimately had to “dispatch” the animal. No damage was reported to the property.
