Though yesterday’s election results are not complete or final in many areas, there are a few races that have confidently been called.  42,412 voters turned out in Centre County, a 48.56 percent turnout rate.



The unofficial results, so far, in Centre County, according to the Centre County Government Web site, are as follows:

  • Bob Casey, Jr. (D) defeated Rick Santorum (R) for the U.S. Senate seat with 56.73 percent of the vote.
  • Ed Rendell (D) was reelected as Pennsylvania governor, according to early exit polls and reports, defeating opponent Lynn Swann (R) by a margin of 3,257 votes in Centre County.
  • Jake Corman (R) was elected to a third four-year term in the 34th state Senate District, defeating his closest opponent, Jon Eich (D), receiving an unofficial 12,652 more votes over the entire district.  In Centre County, the votes were much closer, with Corman winning by less than 1,000 votes.
  • John Peterson (R) defeated Donald Hilliard (D) for the representative position in congress for the 5th district.
  • Mike Hanna (D) ran unopposed as the representative in the General Assembly 76th District.
  • Scott Conklin (D) received 58.87 percent of the vote in the race for Representative in the General Assembly 77th District, defeating opponent Barbara Spencer (R).
  • Kerry Benninghoff (R) ran unopposed as Representative in the General Assembly 171st District.
