Multiple fire companies battled a blaze at a Patton Township apartment complex on Sunday.
Alpha Fire Company responded at 5:35 p.m. to smoke and flames coming from the roof of building F at Tremont Student Living. Alpha Chief Jason Troup said that no resident injuries were reported and to his knowledge no residents were home at the immediately impacted apartments.
One firefighter was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center as a precaution.
Within about one hour, crews had put out the fire, which caused substantial damage to the roof and apartments on the upper floor. Troup said 12 apartments in the unit where the fire occurred and another 12 in the adjacent portion of the complex would have to be evacuated for the time being.
Troup was not yet sure how many people would be displaced, but noted that the complex is mostly occupied by Penn State students and some residents are away for the summer. Several people had come to the scene inquiring about the condition of apartments on behalf of friends who are residents but are out of town.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and fire marshals were still investigating at about 7:45 p.m.
In addition to Alpha, Boalsburg, Pleasant Gap and Bellefonte’s Undine fire companies responded, as well as Centre LifeLink EMS, Fame EMS from Mifflin County, Alpha Fire Police and Patton Township Police. A West Penn Power and Columbia Gas also were on the scene.
