An apparent garage fire ripped through a home on the 2300 block of Bristol Avenue Sunday night.

All three residents, including a dog, safely fled the house unharmed.

A police officer — one of a myriad of respondents — declined comment because the on-scene investigation was ongoing.

One neighbor, Beth Wilkinson, said she heard a whoosh noise that sounded like thunder between 10:30 and 11 p.m. The power to her house dimmed; she said her lights started flickering.

She then saw the orange glow of flames and called 9-1-1. Within five minutes, respondents arrived.

Alpha Fire Company, Bellefonte Fire Department, Ferguson Township Police, EMTs and paramedics stretched down Bristol Avenue for blocks from the house, which sits at the end of a cul-de-sac.

A gray smoke lingered throughout the neighborhood, and sudsy water streamed down the street.
