Former quarterback Wally Richardson is taking control of the Penn State Football Letterman’s Club.

Richardson will return to State College to begin his duties on June 1. As the club’s director he’ll have oversight of the 1,000 dues-paying membership club made up of former Penn State football players and managers.

“I am really excited to be coming back to Penn State,” Richardson said in a statement. “I am looking forward to the opportunities that the Director of Football Letterman’s Club offers.”

“This is a great opportunity to help further strengthen the bond between the guys who have recently played and those who played at Penn State, whether it was 10, 20 or 50 years ago.”

Richardson earned two degrees at Penn State, including a master’s degree in higher education.

Richardson was the signal caller for two years (’96-’97) and led Penn State to a 20-5 record as a starter. There were two bowl wins and a top 10 finish with Richardson running Penn State’s offense. He played two seasons professionally with the Baltimore Ravens.

More recently, Richardson served as the Associate Director of Football Academic Support at the University of North Carolina.

He will take over the duties from Justin Kurpeikis, whose career overlapped with Richardson in 1997.
