Former Penn State wrestler Ryan Cummins is taking over as head varsity coach of State College High School’s wrestling squad. Cummins was unanimously approved by the school board at Monday night’s meeting.
He will assume the wrestling responsibilities immediately.
The Lititz, Pa. native joined the Penn State team in 1998 and served as captain during his senior year. After graduating he coached at several schools including Kent State University, Lancaster Catholic High School, and most recently at Easton Area High School.
In a statement, Cummins says, “I would like to thank State College Area School District for the opportunity to share my knowledge of the sport with these student athletes and work together to continue the success and traditions of State College Wrestling.”
District Athletic Director Peg Pennepacker says, “I’m pleased to have Ryan on staff and look forward to working with him to build on the past traditions and take State College wrestling into the next era.”
Cummins is a familiar face in the State College Area School District. He was a student teacher at Ferguson Township and Gray’s Woods Elementary schools and is currently a Phys Ed teacher at the high school.
