State College theatre lovers rejoice: FUSE Productions has two new productions coming up.

As part of the series of contemporary play readings, Act One will be performed Oct. 18 and their musical theatre cabaret series returns Oct. 24.

Act One will be performed by 12 local actors through the reading of text without the use of sets or props. The actors will portray the true story of Moss Hart, who grew up in an impoverished Bronx family, and his dream of joining the world of theater.

“With just the scripts in front of them, the actors are be able to present the story to the audience in a simpler way,” Producing Artistic Director Richard Biever said. “Act One is an entertaining and insightful piece and we are very excited to be doing it.”

Following the reading, there will be a discussion where the actors and audience talk about the different issues and ideas brought about by the play. For Act One, the play incorporates the issues of spousal abuse, poverty and finding a career in the arts, Biever said.

The reading will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Singing Onstage Studios on 1108 S. Pugh Street with a $10 ticket price.

Love the songs of current Broadway musicals? Then there’s another event to look forward to.

FUSE productions, in its second year of musical theatre cabaret, is returning with a lively collection of songs from popular musicals written from 2000 to the present. These musicals include Bonnie & Clyde, Matilda and Avenue Q.

The cabaret will start at 7:00 p.m. Oct. 24 at Singing Onstage Studios. There is no ticket price, but there is a suggested donation price of $5.

“Both productions give more local actors and singers the chance to perform in an environment that is less stressful than a full production,” said Biever.

FUSE Productions is a non-profit organization with the goal of bringing together local actors, Penn State students, alumni and faculty, as well as professional actors throughout the country to create an exciting professional theatre and theatre experiences for State College in a simple, low-cost way.
