Giant Food Stores has donated 250 turkeys and $5,000 to State College Food Bank to help supply Thanksgiving meals for area families in need.
The donation is part of the grocery store chain’s ‘Feeding Our Neighbors Every Day’ holiday campaign to provide 1.6 million meals to those in need this Thanksgiving.
“All of us at the State College Food Bank are beyond grateful for [Giant’s] kindness and generosity this holiday season,’ aid Allayn Beck, business manager at the food bank. ‘Thanks to this donation, we are able to provide 250 families with a very special Thanksgiving dinner.’
State College Food Bank serves clients who are living in poverty, unemployed, underemployed, affected with physical or mental disabilities, or experiencing hard times and need help making ends meet. Supported by donations, grants and volunteers, the food bank helps hundreds of local families throughout the year, including providing Thanksgiving and holiday meals.
Giant Food Stores president Tom Lenkevich said the company will donate more than $270,000 in turkeys and gift cards to food banks in four states this year.
‘This is our largest Thanksgiving donation to date providing 1.6 million meals to our neighbors in need this holiday,’ Lenkevich said.
