The Centre County Grange Fair has canceled its annual parade scheduled for Thursday because of the threat of severe thunderstorms and potentially hazardous conditions.

Fair officials said the decision was made in collaboration with the National Weather Service and Centre County Emergency Management after monitoring developing weather forecasts.

“We understand many of you look forward to the parade and we appreciate your understanding,” fair organizers wrote in a Facebook post. “Safety must come first. Again, thank you for your cooperation and understanding.”

AccuWeather and the National Weather Service both forecast a chance for thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening in Centre Hall. According to AccuWeather, the “storms can bring flooding downpours and localized damaging wind gusts.”

A yearly tradition involving numerous community organizations, the parade was scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

The Grange Fair continues its 152nd year through Saturday night.
