The Nittany Mall may be losing another shop as children’s clothing retailer Gymboree reportedly is expected to close all 900 of its stores.

The Wall Street Journal and CNBC reported that San Francisco-based Gymboree Group, Inc. will file for bankruptcy protection as early as this week and then liquidate all of its stores, which include Gymboree, Crazy 8 and Janie and Jack.

Gymboree previously filed for bankruptcy in 2017, when it had more than $1 billion in debt and closed about 375 stores.

If Gymboree does close, it would be the second store closing in the Nittany Mall this year. Matthew’s Hallmark Shop already announced that its last day of business will be Feb. 25.

Last year, the mall saw the closure of Sears, Bon-Ton, Charlotte Russe, Things Remembered, Pearle Vision, Regis Salon, Zales, Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, RC’s Dogs, Garfield’s Restaurant and Pub and Old State Deli.

It did, however, see several openings, with the return of Can’s Art next door to the new Native Crafts. Dance Academy of State College opened a new studio, Happy Wraps replaced Old State Deli, and Chinese Hot Pot (Gudong) took over the former Auntie Anne’s location.

Happy Dishes restaurant, KnB’s Inflatables Please indoor family entertainment center and Rampage Room are planning to open in the mall in 2019.
