Happy Valley Improv will celebrate its fifth birthday with a host of discounted ticket sales and comedy classes this fall.
The State College-based improv company will mark its special day with its show at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Blue Brick Theatre, 209 W. Calder Way. Discounted tickets are available online for $5 using the promo code “BIRTHDAY” at checkout.
Happy Valley Improv’s Sept. 30 show will feature three acts: “Cosmic Flowjob,” “Medieval Miniaturists” and “The Odd Thruple.” After the show, attendees are invited to a reception at the Graduate Hotel’s Trophy Room restaurant, complete with cupcakes.
This week only, Happy Valley Improv is also offering a $55 discount on its upcoming beginner-level improv class when using the promo code “BIRTHDAY” during registration. Starting in early November, the six-week course will cover basic improv principles, stage presence and scene work, all culminating in an optional showcase for friends and family.
Happy Valley Improv debuted in 2017 with the help of co-founders of Andrea McCloskey, James Tierney, Sam Tanner and Nate Rufo. The company moved into its own downtown theater in 2021, where it now hosts comedy shows every Friday night at 7 p.m. Happy Valley Improv also offers an annual improv festival, youth classes and comedy workshops.
“The past five years have gone by in a flash,” Tierney, who doubles as Happy Valley Improv’s business manager, said in a statement. “It has been such a pleasure to bring joy and levity to the State College community.”
