A State College hotel is the scene of a bizarre attack early Monday morning. Police say somebody wearing a Spider-Man mask pummeled the night clerk using a large skeleton key as a weapon.
It happened at 1:50 a.m. at the Hotel State College on the corner of South Allen Street and West College Avenue.
Police are calling it an aggravated assault and a possible attempted robbery. The clerk was struck repeatedly during the attack. Police tell StateCollege.com the clerk was held at Mount Nittany Medical Center overnight for observation, but couldn’t comment on any injuries.
The suspect is described as 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a muscular build.
The assailant left the key he used in the attack behind. Police say the key weighs 19 ounces, more than a pound. It was probably meant to be used as a paperweight or decoration.
A call to Hotel State College for comment was not immediately returned.
Anyone who recognizes the key or has additional information about the crime should contract State College Police at 814-234-7150. Anonymous tips can be submitted by emailing tip@centrecountycrimestoppers.org or by calling 1-877-99-CRIME. Tips can also be made by clicking HERE.
