Visitors to Penn State will no longer have free parking overnight and on weekends at three parking decks on the University Park campus.

Beginning July 1, parking in the East, HUB and Nittany decks will require a valid permit or payment of the $1 per hour fee at all times, the university’s Parking Office announced this week.

Students, faculty and staff with valid campus parking permits will still be able to park for free in the decks on evening and weekends if they scan the permit upon entry.

Free parking will remain available for visitors in the Red A and all Orange and Commuter lots on weekdays after 5 p.m. and all day on most Saturdays and Sundays. Fees may be required during events. Overnight parking is not permitted in the Commuter lots, with or without a permit.

Penn State also offers an evening/weekend permit for $6 a month, which provides access to most faculty and staff parking areas on weekdays from 4 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. and all day on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Parking Office plans to announce ‘additional changes to visitor access at select faculty/staff parking areas’ this summer, according to a news release
