Pennsylvania hunting licenses for the 2022-23 season are on sale as of Monday at outlets throughout Centre County, including the county Treasurer’s Office, Treasurer Colleen Kennedy said in a news release.
Prices remain the same as last year and lifetime license holders are reminded to renew at no additional cost.
In addition to the Treasurer’s Office in the Willowbank Building, 420 Holmes Street in Bellefonte, a map of licensed sales outlets can be found here.
The license year runs from July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.
July 11 is the first day that the Treasurer’s Office is allowed to accept antlerless deer license applications by mail from Pennsylvania residents. Nonresident applications will be processed beginning July 18. The first round of unsold “bonus tags” will start on Aug. 1. Hunters may only submit one application per round statewide, though up to three hunters can submit applications in the same envelope. Any applications received before the start of each round will be rejected and returned.
Applications for antlerless deer cannot be accepted in person and must be sent by First Class U.S. Mail to the Treasurer’s Office in the required pink envelope provided by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Applicants must attach a postage stamp to the inner return envelope. According to Game Commission regulations, if an applicant fails to include return postage, no license will be issued and the application will be held in a “dead letter file” in the Treasurer’s Office.
Application fees for antlerless deer licenses also remain the same as last year: $6.97 for residents and $26.97 for nonresidents. Hunters should submit a separate check or money order for each individual application, payable to “Centre County Treasurer” and made out for the exact amount of the fee only.
The two Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) located in Centre County are 2G (north of Interstate 80) and 4D (south of Interstate 80). This year’s allocations are 25,000 licenses for WMU 2G and 55,000 licenses for WMU 4D. On the application form, hunters must enter their WMU preference. Hunters may select up to three WMU preferences. If the first is sold out, a license will be issued for the second or third based on availability.
Kennedy said that in 2021 WMU 2G was sold out within the first week.
