This Sunday the Arts District at Penn State will be transformed into a scene filled with lively music performances, interactive activities, and demonstrations for all to enjoy.
On Sep. 20 from 12-5 p.m., Penn State’s College of Arts and Architecture will present Penn State with artsUP, a free celebration of the arts for those of all ages.
“We organized artsUP to heighten awareness to new students and faculty as well as the general community about the arts and activities our students have been working on,” said George Trudeau, director of the Center for Performing Arts. “We asked all areas of the college to participate to assure that we have lots of opportunities for everyone to get involved and see what is going on in the college.”
Kicking off the event, the Blue Band will march from Eisenhower Auditorium, down Curtin Road, to the Palmer Museum. New Orleans brass band The Soul Rebels will give a performance at 4 p.m. in Eisenhower Auditorium, said Trudeau. Free tickets for the performance can be picked up at Eisenhower Auditorium and the HUB-Robeson Center information desk anytime before the performance. Other performances at the celebration include a flute choir and a double bass ensemble.
Also at the event will be demonstrations and workshops for activities such as ceramics, graphic designing and 3-D digital printing as well as interactive dance classes, museum tours and exhibitions, and a variety of performances.
“Another thing for those attending to be excited about is in addition to the events posted on the schedule, there will be surprise performances,” said Trudeau.
Following the event, there will be a raffle held at the information tents where the winners to a number of items including tickets to upcoming performances will be announced.
For those interested in attending more performances throughout the year, the ticket office at Eisenhower and at the theatre building will be open during the entirety of artsUP where tickets for upcoming events hosted by the college can be purchased.
