Several people suffered minor injuries Tuesday afternoon in a two-car collision on South Atherton Street, State College police reported.

It happened at 2:21 p.m. at the University Drive intersection, according to a crash report. A westbound Lincoln Town Car driven by Walter Hwozdek, 86, of State College, crossed into the path of an eastbound Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Victoria Staley, 16, of State College, the report says.

Hwozdek said he didn’t notice the Honda approaching as he began a left turn from University Drive onto Atherton Street, the report shows.

The vehicles collided in the middle of Atherton Street, both sustaining extreme front-end damage, police said.

Hwozdek was transported by ambulance to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of his minor injuries, according to the crash report. Staley and a passenger in the Honda also suffered minor injuries, but did not require ambulance trips to the hospital, the report shows.

Police said Hwozdek will be cited for a traffic violation.

In a connected incident, a FedEx driver was cited after he became disorderly at the wreck scene, police said.

According to a police report, the delivery driver — a passer-by — disobeyed a traffic-directing officer after the crash. He nearly caused another accident in the process, and yelled profanities at the officer, too, the police report indicates.

Police said the delivery driver was cited for disorderly conduct and a couple traffic violations, including failure to obey official traffic directives.
