On Wednesday, Jerry Sandusky’s wife, Dottie, will be featured in an exclusive interview on NBC’s Today Show, speaking with Matt Lauer.

In a promo that aired Tuesday morning, Lauer asks Dottie Sandusky, “Prison has to change a person, being in that type of surrounding for the time he’s been there. What changes have you seen in him?”

She replies, “A friend had written to him and asked him what he missed, what did he take most for granted?” Dottie Sandusky began to cry before continuing, “And he said, ‘Family meals, the fun time with the grandkids, playing ball, doing special things with friends.”

Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach was convicted in June of 2012 for sexually abusing young boys. The crimes shocked the nation and had a devastating effect on our community.

Head football coach Joe Paterno was fired. The NCAA slapped Penn State’s football program with unprecedented sanctions. Three top university administrators face criminal charges for allegedly trying to cover-up the abuse. Penn State has paid out nearly $60 million to Sandusky’s victims. Sandusky is now serving 30 to 60 years in prison.

If there can be anything positive from the ordeal, the scandal has raised awareness about child sex abuse and led to an increase in reports of suspected child abuse.

The full Dottie Sandusky interview will run on the Today Show beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday. It’s not clear exactly what time the segment will air.
