Comedian, Penn State alumnus and noted James Franklin impersonator Keegan-Michael Key appeared on ESPN’s College GameDay Saturday morning in New York to address Franklin’s decision to call a timeout before Georgia State attempted a field goal late in last week’s game.

The Nittany Lions were up 56-0 with their fourth string squad on the field when Franklin called a time out right before a Georgia State field goal. During his show on Monday, sports radio host Mike Francesa went off about Franklin’s decision to call a time out.

“I hope he was proud at himself for getting that 56-0,” Francesa said. “I hope he was real proud of himself on the coaches show — show it a few times! Lot of class, coach. Lot of class.”

Franklin himself said he called the time out because the Nittany Lions don’t have fourth team field goal block, so he wanted time to get the second team field goal block in.

“What happened was I got a little carried away,” Key, as Franklin, said. “At that point I had some players from the band in there, I had a security guard, equipment manager, and the Nittany Lion mascot were all in there at that time…he’s never blocked a kick before!”

Key is a Penn State alumnus from the MFA acting program. He served as the grand marshal for Penn State Homecoming in 2015.
