Updated: Kickoff is set for 12:40 p.m., according to Penn State

Kickoff for Penn State’s game against Pitt at Beaver Stadium was delayed because of lightning in the area.

Stadium gates reopened just after noon and Penn State announced kickoff would be at 12:40 p.m.

The game was initially set to start at noon, but Penn State announced at about 11:40 a.m. that the start time was delayed.

The National Weather Service reported thunderstorms with lightning within 5 miles of the stadium.

At about 11:10 a.m., fans inside the stadium were asked to shelter in the concourse and those outside were asked to return to their vehicles or shelter at the Bryce Jordan Center, IM Building, Ag Arena, or Multi-Sport Facility. Stadium gates were then closed.

Both teams were cleared from the field about 10 minutes later.

The game will still air on ABC.
