Penn State accepted an invitation to appear as the Big Ten representative in the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida yesterday. The game will take place on New Years Day, January 1, 2007.
The 8-4 Nittany Lions’ opponent is still unknown and most likely won’t be determined until the Bowl Championship Series teams are announced on Sunday, Dec. 3. Current teams under consideration include Southeastern Conference teams Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, and Tennessee.
This announcement will mark the third Nittany Lions appearance in the Outback Bowl. They are currently 2-0 in their appearances at Raymond James Stadium for this event. They defeated Auburn 43-14 on Jan. 1, 1996, and Kentucky, 26-14, on Jan. 1, 1999.
The 21st Outback Bowl will kickoff at 11 a.m. Eastern Time on New Years Day. ESPN will televise the contest to a national audience.
