A State College man was arrested Sunday for allegedly punching a woman in the face.

Steven McGill, 66, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor simple assault after State College Police were dispatched to the Mount Nittany Medical Center emergency room for a report of a possible domestic violence incident.

At the hospital, a woman who was being treated allegedly told police that on Saturday she and McGill were at a residence on Easterly Parkway when she asked McGill if he had her keys. When she attempted to look inside McGill’s nightstand, McGill allegedly punched her in the face with a clenched fist, according to an affidavit of probable cause. McGill then allegedly grabbed her wrist and hand and twisted them, and the woman fell to the ground after pulling away.

Police said the woman had multiple visible injuries, including a swollen eye with a laceration, a bruised knee and a swollen hand. She was also bruised on the hip where she said she fell while pulling away.

McGill was arraigned before District Judge Allen Sinclair and posted $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 7.
