A Patton Township man is facing a simple assault charge after allegedly punching a woman in the face.

Patton Township police were dispatched at 6:10 p.m. on Sunday to a Fairwood Lane residence where a woman said her cousin, Dominique L. Smith, 24, had held her down and punched her in the face two times, according to a criminal complaint.

Police said Smith was agitated and continued to yell at another woman in the residence after an officer arrived and asked him to calm down several times. After an officer escorted him outside, Smith allegedly said he and his cousin had been arguing and that the cousin ‘got in [his] face.’ Police said Smith avoided answering when asked what he did to get her out of his face.

Two women in the residence reportedly confirmed the cousin’s account of the altercation. Police said the cousin had a red mark on the side of her face and redness on her upper lip.

Smith was charged with one count of simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor. He was arraigned on Sunday night before District Judge Steven Lachman and unsecured bail was set at $25,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 26.
