A State College man is heading to prison after a frightening incident inside a moving car. Kevin Sherlock, 29, was sentenced to 1 year and 10 months to 5 years in a State Correctional Facility Tuesday after a dangerous encounter with the mother of his baby son.

A jury convicted Sherlock last January on charges of endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person. He was found not guilty of simple assault and harassment.

According to the district attorney’s office, the mother of Sherlock’s six-month-old son offered Sherlock a ride in January of 2012 so he could have visitation with the child. An argument ensued in the mother’s car and Sherlock refused to get out of the vehicle. Sherlock struggled with the mother, who was driving, and tried to pull the keys out of the ignition, creating a dangerous situation. The mother had to stop the car, and flee with her child.

Sherlock’s trouble doesn’t end there. Last night, on the eve of his sentencing, Sherlock was arrested in Ferguson Township. His current girlfriend told police that Sherlock strangled her and punched her in the face. The woman claims that Sherlock repeatedly slammed her head on the floor of her apartment after refusing to leave. She was treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center for abrasions on her face and released.

“Sherlock could not even make it to his own sentencing on charges where a jury found him guilty of recklessly endangering his son and his previous girlfriend in a prior domestic incident before he landed in trouble for new similar charges, so clearly state prison is the best place for him,” said District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller.
