MegaBus, the Britain-based discount bus service, will launch daily service between Philadelphia and State College on July 21.

The expansion, announced Thursday, will include service between State College and Harrisburg, as well.

MegaBus began offering service in State College last month, but only to and from Pittsburgh and New York City. As part of its growth announcement, the company said it will expand service from Philadelphia to nine cities overall.

The arrival and departure point in the city is on John F. Kennedy Boulevard near 30th Street Station. In State College, MegaBus coaches arrive at and depart from East Beaver Avenue near South Atherton Street, in front of the Balfurd dry-cleaning operation.

‘Popularity in bus travel continues to rise as travelers search for economical options and quality service,’ MegaBus President Dale Moser said in a press release. The company is a subsidiary of Coach USA.

It’s known for using bright-blue, double-decker-style buses and for offering on-board wireless-Internet access for passengers.

To promote the service expansion, MegaBus is offering 10,000 free rides starting on July 21. Customers should use promotion code LUVPHL when booking tickets via http://us.megabus.com to see if they are eligible for a free ride, the company said.

Details are available via the MegaBus website. Prices for trips from State College can range from $1 to $25 each way — depending on the destination and when the trip is booked.
